StoopingMap · Last updated: February 8, 2026

1. Overview

StoopingMap (“we”, “our”, or “us”) helps people share and discover free furniture and other items left on the street. We do not require user accounts. We collect limited in-app analytics events (such as taps and navigation flows) to improve the App. We do not track users across other apps or websites, and we do not sell data.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect data that is strictly necessary for the app to function:

  • Manually Selected Location Data. When browsing or posting items, you may manually select locations on the map. We do not continuously track your location, store movement history, or collect background location data.
  • Item Posts. When you create a post, the photo, description, and coordinates you choose are uploaded to our database (hosted on Supabase) so other users can view the item on the shared map. This content is publicly visible within the app.
  • Notification Area Selection. If you enable notifications, you may manually select an area on the map. The selected area’s coordinates are stored together with a push notification token in order to notify you when new items are added within that area.
  • Push Notification Token. We store a system-generated push token provided by Apple solely for delivering notifications. This token is not linked to your identity and cannot be used to personally identify you.
  • In-App Analytics Events. We use PostHog to collect limited product analytics events in the iOS app, such as taps, feature clicks, and navigation between screens. We use this only to understand how users interact with the App and improve usability. We do not use analytics heatmaps, do not use session replay, and do not track users across other apps.

3. How We Use Data

  • Display shared items on the map.
  • Notify users about new items within their selected areas (if enabled).
  • Understand feature usage (through limited in-app analytics) to improve UX and reliability.
  • Maintain core app functionality and reliability.

Promotional use (item photos only). Public photos of items (for example, furniture) may be used for promotional purposes, such as showcasing items shared in the App on social media or marketing materials. We do not use photos that include people or other identifying information.

We use analytics only for internal product improvement. We do not use analytics for targeted advertising or cross-app profiling, and we do not sell analytics data.

4. Data Storage

App data (item posts, selected notification areas, and push tokens) is stored on Supabase, a managed cloud database platform that follows industry-standard security practices and supports GDPR compliance.

Limited analytics event data is processed by PostHog for product analytics. We do not collect names, email addresses, payment details, or precise location history for analytics, and we do not link analytics events to an identifiable individual.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

  • Item posts remain visible until deleted by you.
  • Notification area selections and push tokens are retained only while notifications are enabled.
  • Analytics events are retained only as needed for product analysis and service improvement.
  • You may request deletion of specific content by contacting us.

Backup data is retained for a limited period and is automatically overwritten on a rolling basis.

6. Subscriptions

Some features, including area-based notifications, are available only through paid subscriptions. All subscriptions are auto-renewable and are handled entirely by Apple via the App Store.

We do not receive or store payment information, billing details, or personal identifiers related to subscriptions.

7. Children’s Privacy

StoopingMap is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect stored data. While no system can guarantee absolute security, we take appropriate steps to minimize risk.
